Asthma
Asthma is a common condition where the breathing passages narrow, causing difficulty in breathing. This narrowing can be associated with a chest infection but may also be triggered by pollens, dust, fur, smoke, cold air or exercise.
Severe asthma attacks can cause people to die. You can help by knowing what to do.
- Breathlessness or difficulty speaking
- A wheezy noise when breathing
- Persistent cough
- Help the patient to rest in a comfortable position (usually sitting)
- Assist the patient to take their asthma relieving medicine
- Call 111 for an ambulance if they are not improving
