Wednesday 21 July 2010
St John wishes to acknowledge the tremendous contribution Sir Randal Elliott made to St John during his lifetime.
Sir Randal died on Tuesday 20 July 2010.
Chief Executive Jaimes Wood said, “We are saddened by the loss of Sir Randal Elliott and offer our condolences to his family and friends.”
“Sir Randal was a senior member of St John who contributed much to our organisation over many years. Sir Randal was an outstanding New Zealander.”
“Sir Randal was supported by his wife, the late Pauline, Lady Elliott in his work for St John.”
Sir Randal served St John for many years and was Chancellor of St John in New Zealand from 1980 to 1986. His father, Sir James Elliot, was also Chancellor of St John.
During his time in leadership roles Sir Randal played a significant part in ensuring St John in New Zealand maintained relevance and could continue with future sustainability.
St John has served New Zealand communities for 125 years – and continues to play an increasingly active role as a contemporary provider of health and related services.
Sir Randal also performed several tours of duty to the St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem as Ophthalmic Surgeon, where he was ably supported by his late wife.
Sir Randal was promoted to Bailiff Grand Cross in the Order of St John in 1987 in recognition of his significant contribution to St John. His father was also promoted to Bailiff Grand Cross.
Bailiff Grand Cross is the highest award in the St John Honours system. This honour is limited to only ten people, outside the Royal family, worldwide.
