St John attending to minor injuries and medical conditions in Christchurch
St John is responding to a number of earthquake-related emergency calls. As of 3pm we have responded to 19 emergency incident calls, however all have been minor injuries:

In a world first, St John are piloting a CPR card in New Zealand. Laerdal has developed the prototype CPR card – a business card sized device that helps to improve the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Laerdal is an international healthcare company dedicated to helping save lives with innovative products, services and system solutions.

St John District Cadets of the Year
With over 2,500 Youth members in St John’s Northern Region it’s always a difficult decision when it comes to the annual selection of five District Cadets of the Year. These are the top cadets in their district and are, without exception, fantastic role models for their local communities. They attend events throughout their district and assist Youth leaders to run various activities.

Ambulance Communications Centres fully functional

The three ambulance communications centres, based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch were affected by a computer virus on Wednesday night. Anti-virus software protected the systems but as a result of the virus it impacted on some of the systems services, mainly those related to paging and radio. Back up systems immediately took over when it was detected and the workload was managed manually.
