The only medical alarms monitored by St John
Falls are the single largest cause of injury for New Zealanders and the second most common reason for using
ambulance services.
Every year in New Zealand, 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 fall. For those over the age of 80 the rate
increases to 1 in 2.
Often the amount of time it takes to get help can be critical to how well someone recovers from a fall.
Our St John medical alarm connects you directly with St John so you can quickly access the care you need from
the organisation you know and trust. It's part of St John’s goal of helping New Zealanders to preserve their independent
living.
Introducing St John Medical Alarms
(Formerly Lifelink and Home Alert Medical Alarms)
Medical alarm systems consist of a base unit connected to a telephone line in your home, as well as
a push button pendant worn by you that activates the base unit in an emergency.
The pendant is most commonly worn around your neck or on your wrist like a medical bracelet
and the base unit usually sits next to your telephone. St John has a number of medical alarm systems to meet your needs.
1-2-3 simple steps:
 |
 |
 |
| You activate alarm |
We call back and assess |
Ambulance is sent only if required |
If you press the button on your St John medical alarm the activation goes directly to St John.
We call you back to check that everything is ok and if required, our trained staff will arrange the most appropriate response for your situation.
If there is no reply or if it is an emergency, we will send an ambulance and ambulance staff will automatically receive your
name, location and health condition.
Any ambulance call outs are free as part of our medical alarm service.
