Support St John in your community.
Every day, right across the country, St John is the first to care for thousands of New Zealanders.
By becoming a St John Supporter you'll help to raise the funds to maintain and develop our services in your
local area.
Anyone living in New Zealand can become a St John Supporter. It costs just $55 for a household, which
covers all members in your household for a full year. As an individual, you normally pay $40 a year per person.
In return, should you ever need a St John ambulance, we'll waive the part charge that you would otherwise
pay in a medical emergency (subject to the terms and conditions below). You'll receive free medical attendance
and transport to hospital anywhere in New Zealand.
Even if you do not think you will need us in a medical emergency, becoming a St John Supporter is a great
way to ensure you continue to have St John services in your community.

Terms and Conditions
New terms and conditions effective 28 April 2011
The terms and conditions for membership of the St John Supporter Scheme are as follows:
1. Guiding principles for the Scheme
The St John Supporter Scheme is a means for individuals and family households to financially support
St John's charitable activities. The terms and conditions of the St John Supporter Scheme describe those St
John services
The St John Supporter Scheme is not intended to be an insurance scheme. St John offers the benefit of waiving
the part-charge for any ambulance attendance for medical emergencies in return for individuals and households
contributing to support the community work of St John.
The St John Supporter Scheme does not allow group or company participation and so membership of the St John
scheme by groups or companies will be declined. Equally, there is no life membership equivalent of the scheme.
2. Supporter subscriptions
A household can support St John for $55.00 per annum or an individual for $40.00 per annum,
both include GST.
3. Payment
Subject to these conditions of membership, payment of the household or individual subscription will provide
St John Supporter membership for 12 months from the date payment is received by St John. For continuous
membership, renewal subscriptions of the amount of the household or individual, as the case may be, ought to be
paid before expiry of a paid membership period.
St John may review the amount of the Supporter subscriptions at any time. In the event of the subscriptions
being varied the variation will be effective 30 days from the date such variation is notified to the member.
Notification is deemed to have occurred 30 days following the posting by St John of a letter or the transmission
of an email to the member by St John advising of the variation.
St John Supporter subscriptions can be paid by credit card or by cheque (crossed "non-transferable")
made payable to St John.
4. Supporter benefit
For most people, there is normally a part charge from St John for an ambulance call out to a medical emergency.
The part charge arises because Government funding does not cover medical emergencies the same way it does for
accidents. "Medical emergencies" means, in this context, things like a collapse, an asthma attack or a
heart attack.
Under the St John Supporter Scheme, Supporters have the benefit of cover for any part charges incurred for
medical emergency ambulance attendances and transports anywhere in New Zealand.
Please note:
a. membership of the St John Supporter Scheme does not entitle a Supporter to transport to or from clinic appointments, transport from one hospital to another, or discharges from hospital;
b. St John Supporter privileges do not cover non-emergency medical call-outs and St John may charge the Supporter the full cost for providing ambulance services in these circumstances (click here for details of ambulance private hire charges);
c. Supporters who receive ambulance attendance/transport in a medical emergency from other ambulance services can claim any ambulance transport costs incurred from the use of that service by contacting St John.
5. Supporter obligations
Membership of the St John Supporter Scheme is not transferable or assignable.
Household Supporters include all members of the same household living at the same address who are listed on the
Supporters form. When applying for Household Supporter membership the applicant must include the name of the
Principal Supporter through whom the household has membership.
It is the responsibility of the Principal Supporter to notify St John of any additions or other relevant
changes to the members of the household listed on a household membership. If changes are not notified to St John,
any individual living at a Household Supporter's household who is not listed on the Supporters form by the
Principal Supporter will incur the charges due from emergency attendances and transport.
St John may, at its discretion, decline any application for membership or renewal of membership of the St John
Supporter Scheme, or cancel any current membership on written notice to a member, if:
a. the applicant, or Supporter, or member, or an individual living in a Supporter Household or prospective Supporter Household, owes any amount to St John (or to any assignee of such debt if it has been assigned by St John); or
b. it is determined by St John, acting reasonably, that the Supporter or a number of a Supporter Household is/are acting outside the scope of the Guiding Principles or abusing the Scheme; or
c. the applicant or Supporter is not making or has not made the application on their own behalf.
